Abstract:
A set of measurements of radiometric profiles, inherent optical properties and water quality parameters for 150 stations in UK coastal waters will be assembled and made available to the earth observation community. It will be accompanied by an analysis of likely measurement errors and by radiance transfer calculations of the sensitivity of remote sensing reflectance to variations in inherent optical properties for these waters. The database will provide an important resource for testing the validity of existing algorithms for interpreting satellite observations of ocean colour and for developing new approaches. In this project, it will be used to determine whether single-valued data inversions are theoretically possible in optically complex coastal regions.
