Abstract:
HIRDLS is an infrared limb sounder to measure stratospheric temperature and constituents from the NASA EOS Aura satellite to be launched in 2004. The measurements will be used to advance our understanding of dynamical processes which control transport in the stratosphere and upper troposphere and so directly affect the Earth's climate. The project is joint with the University of Colorado, USA who are funded by NASA. The UK part was approved by SERC in 1991 until after launch, and has been funded through the NERC award scheme. This application requests support for staff at Oxford University for some of the accumulated launch slip from June 2003 to January 2004 that has occurred since the NERC awards and will provide for launch preparation including ground control, spacecraft testing and preparation for flight.
