- Abstract:
- The Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) has been gathering high resolution (0.025 cm-1) infrared spectral data since April of 2002. The ability of MIPAS to resolve gas emission lines (against a background of cold space) presents the first opportunity for extended observation of many important, but poorly understood, atmospheric trace gases (e.g. SF6, NH3, OCS, SO2) including isotopic variants. ESA processing of MIPAS data is limited to six gas species over a limited height range. This proposal is to develop, for the UK community, an algorithm - MIPAS Orbital Retrieval using Sequential Estimation (MORSE) - to retrieve all possible trace gases over the full MIPAS observation range.
