- Abstract:
- This application is for a discipline-bridging award, to enable the applicant (a statistician) to spend time in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. The applicant has long-standing research interests in the development and use of statistical methodology in atmospheric science, but most of his previous collaborations have been 'at a distance'. The opportunity to spend 6 months in the outstanding Meteorology department in the UK will provide strong impetus to future collaboration. Two particular areas of research, forecast verification and descriptive multivariate statistics, are of interest to both the applicant and the department, and ideas for specific research projects in these areas will be explored and initiated during the visit. Other specific activities (seminars, lectures, group meetings - see Case for Support) will broaden the interaction beyond the two disciplines.
