- Abstract:
- The potential of the Arabian peninsula for human occupation and migration will be investigated by reference to changes in coastal morphology and ecology over the last 2.5 Myr resulting from sea-level, climatic and tectonic change. Work will comprise (1) reconstruction of palaeoshorelines in relation to bathymetry and sea-level change; (2) field mapping and dating of tectonic features and modelling of rift formation; (3) paleoclimatic and geochemical analyses of sediment cores; and (4) field mapping, dating and analysis of archaeological sites in relation to subaerial and submerged topography. Funds are sought for fieldwork, dating, satellite images and maps, and research assistance with compilation and interpretation of digital mapping, analysis of geoarchaeological and palaeoecological data, and stable isotope and other laboratory analyses.
