- Abstract:
- We will use the controlled exposure of a range of surfaces to ozone under varying temperatures and relative humidities in order to determine the rate of O3 reaction. Experiments will use a CSTR design, with a Teflon chamber inside a large plant growth cabinet. The objective is to characterise the non-stomatal uptake of O3 at the earths surface, so that better parametrisations of this large O3 sink can be incorporated into atmospheric chemistry models of the boundary layer. The role of surface wetness, and the reaction of O3 with biogenic reactive hydrocarbons in the gas phase and dissolved in leaf surface waxes will be studied, to improve knowledge of the fundamental chemical processes that destroy ozone on or in plant canopies.
