- Abstract:
- This proposal seeks funds to carry out in situ measurements of ocean surface temperature. using a well calibrated radiometer. These will be compared to satellite observations from the AATSR and ATSR-2 sensors. which will be covering the same ground tracks, 30 minutes apart, on the Envisat and ERS-2 satellites respectively. These data will provide an evaluation of the performance of the two satellite observing systems. The observations will be made from a NERC research vessel. The radiometer measurements will be complemented by atmospheric profile measurements, which will be used to evaluate the atmospheric correction applied in the satellite retrieval process. These data are expected to be the most precise collected beneath the AATSR and are important in order to verify the accuracy attainable by this sensor and to establish proper continuity with ATSR-2.
