Abstract:
This project will examine spatial and temporal variations in river-aquifer interaction within the Pang and Lambourn catchments. Using a range of borehole and surface geophysical static and time-lapse imaging techniques we will assess the mechanisms of such interaction. Drill cores, including in-stream sampling, borehole hydrogeophysical logging and a surface water measurement programme will support interpretation through model application and analysis. The programme will focus on specific reaches within the catchments where groundwater-river interaction is significant. The project will provide new insight into hydrological controls within chalk lowland catchments and produce a new integrated methodology for practical application by the water industry.
