Abstract:
This project will investigate various methods, novel and established, to estimate catchment average evaporation. Important components are: *use of newly available satellite products to obtain distributed estimates of radiation and vegetation parameters (for example MSG). *Use of a novel technique (a Large Aperture Scintillometer coupled to arrays of net radiometers) to measure area average evaporation directly. *Use of the flux and meteorological measurements available from the Pang catchment. *A comprehensive assessment of errors using Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimation (GLUE) to identify the best methodologies. The project will make extensive and intensive measurement in the Pang catchment and ultimately extend the analysis to the other LOCAR catchments.
