Abstract:
In this proposal, experiments are described that aim to significantly improve our understanding of the mechanism of the ozonolysis of terpenes in the Earth's atmosphere. A particular emphasis will be the elucidation of the reactions that lead to secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation. Experiments will be carried out in static reactors with separation and detection of reactants and products mainly achieved using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (CC/MS), and other techniques where appropriate. The information obtained from the experiments will be incorporated into the Master Chemical Mechanism (MCM) and used to interpret experimental data sets.
