Abstract:
The 94 and 35GHz cloud radars at Chilbolton are providing unique data sets for validating cloud representation in current operational numerical models and for developing algorithms which will be used in spaceborne cloud radars to be launched in 2003 and later. Currently, the radars can only operate in vertical pointing mode. This proposal will allow them to be steered to point an any elevation and azimuth: vital for calibration purposes and for further characterising the properties of liquid water, supercooled and ice clouds.
