- Abstract:
- Current N deposition in many areas of Wales exceed critical load vallues for N as a nutrient (and acidity when in combination with S) indicating sensitive components of the ecosysstem are susceptible to eutrophication and acidification. This project aims to examine if changes have already occured and if predicted scenarios of increased temperature will release N from the soil N store thus enhancing eutrophication of soil and waters. As N depostion already exceeds the critical load in most areas, a reduction experiment is propossed to reduce inputs below ambient loading, with and without warming, to investigate the potential for recovery in these systems. A key role for soil biota is predicted and food web studies will be an important component of the study together with impact studies on water quallity, soil processes and vegetation response.
