Abstract:
Current understanding of the processes controlling sediment movement across the boundary between elements within the fluvial system is limited, and typical approaches tend not to consider spatial variations in processes and connectivity between elements. This project aims to overcome limitations in past studies through a novel, process-based approach that will provide unique data on how sediment of different sizes is transported and deposited, both spatially within a hillslope and across the interface between a hillslope and floodplain. A novel experimental facility and methodology will be utilised in order to achieve the aims of the project. As well as advancing the scientific understanding of soil movement, the results from this study will be applicable to soil erosion issues in many different environments.
