Abstract:
The study will investigate the effects of shear and shear instability on the creation, development, and time evolution of cirrus clouds and their associated inhomogeneity. An assessment will be performed as to the degree of influence shear has on cirrus clouds and the scales of inhomogeneity that result. In this study, we will unravel the effects of shear relative to the diabatic effects of radiative and latent hearing. The research will be performed using the UK Met Office LES model. The simulations will be based on the EMERALD observational campaign (2001). The observations will be used to initialise the model simulations and for statistical comparison cases. The LES will be used as a tool to investigate which processes are taking part and how they are influencing the development and evolution of inhomogeneity that are noted in the observations.
