Abstract:
The aim of this proposal is to investigate regional scale air pollution over the UK using a chemical transport model. The focus will be on factors which make UK air-quality different from other regions: its northerly location (leading to a role for NO3 chemistry during the long winter nights), high degree of cloud cover (leading to a role for cloud chemistry) and marine character (leading to a role for halogen chemistry). The development of the required modelling system will lead to the building of a community capability to simulate, investigate and forecast air quality over the UK.
