Abstract:
This research will apply magnetic methods of geochronology to problems requiring high-resolution stratigraphic correlation and/or dating. Such age control is an essential component of ongoing and developing research, within the Centre for Environmental Magnetism and Palaeomagnetism, focused on a) high resolution proxies for climate and environmental change, their effects on the geological record and implications for human management, b) sediment and basin evolution and their relationship to uplift and subsidence, c) biotic change and its relationship to scales for measuring geological time, and d) timing and tempo of human impact on the environmental and its feedback on human cultural development.
