- Abstract:
- This application, made on behalf of researchers in the School of Biological Sciences, is for a contribution toward the purchase of digital image acquisition and analysis software and hardware. This digital imaging system will provide a central facility in this School for image acquisition, archiving, processing and analysis. At present there is no such facility within the School, but (1) a recent recruitment of new lecturers, and (2) analytical requirements of a number of existing research programs within the school demonstrates the need for such a facility. This digital imaging system provided by Olympus Optical Co (UK) Ltd will facilitate research programs from the level of the cell to the whole organism. These research programs involve projects from across the biological disciplines within the School, and we therefore request a central multi-user facility. The digital imaging system will enable the expansion of several research programs and the development of new research programs within the School. It requires no additional consumable materials and has a low maintenance requirement. Management of the facility will be conducted by the applicants who have the necessary technical skills to optimise the equipment and will maintain communication with Olympus for product upgrades; overseeing of the equipment will be done by one of the departmental technicians.
