- Abstract:
- The aim is to obtain experimental evidence to determine the validity and practical applicability of recent theoretical work on wave propagation through partially sealed fractures. Observations of the amplitude, phase and frequency content of seismic wave lets will be related to rock fracture parameters such as aperture, proportion of weld area on the fracture plane, density and orientation. Laboratory experiments will be performed on 400 mm3 samples at 50-200 kHz up 25 MPa load pressure. Field experiments will be carried out in fractured Carboniferous limestone using seismic cross borehole field procedures at frequencies from 50 Hz to 5kHz.
