Abstract:
Origins of the 'Lusitanian' biota in south-west Ireland remain uncertain after more than a century of debate. In this project we will obtain mitochondrial DNA D-loop sequences of the natterjack toad Bufo calamita, a Lusitanian species, from multiple population samples in western Europe. We will then analyse these data to test hypotheses concerning the origins of Lusitanian distributions.
