Abstract:
'Modelling Eddies in the Southern Ocean' (MESO) is an intensive programme at GFDL, Princeton, to model the Southern Ocean at eddy-resolving resolutions, ranging initially from 1/2 degree to 1/6 degree resolution (Mercator). This project is to support the involvement of the PI in the analysis and interpretation of the model data, along with some preliminary idealised calculations. The focus will be on the adjustment of the Southern hemisphere oceans to abrupt changes in wind forcing, and on the location, structure and transport properties of the inertial jets embedded within the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.
