Abstract:
Do the stomata of single species have a unique response to environmental stresses, or is the response dependent on the climate? At present land surface schemes in GCMs, which include environmental stresses in vegetation, assume that the responses are uniform across the globe for each biome. Data from EUROFLUX, which includes surface fluxes from several types of conifer but from a wide spectrum of climate (Mediterranean to Boreal), will be used in a pilot study to develop methodologies for addressing this question. Emerging statistical techniques, which are relevant to many environmental modelling issues, will be used in this project.
