Science Area:
Marine
Atmospheric
Overall Classification:
Marine
ENRIs:
Natural Resource Management

Ocean Circulation
Abstract:
This project will investigate the scattering of internal waves due to reflections from topographic features at a length scale comparable with or smaller than the wavelength of the incident waves. Synthetic schlieren, a novel optical technique developed by the PI and named collaborators, will be used and enhanced to provide detailed quantitative measurements of the wave field produced. This information will be combined with particle tracking velocimetry and conductivity measurements to obtain details of any wave breaking or mixing that results.
