The formation and differentiation of the Earth: Insights from transition metal isotope analyses of meteorites by MC-ICPMS

Grant Award

Principal Investigator:
Dr S Russell, The Natural History Museum, Mineralogy
Science Area:
Earth
Overall Classification:
Earth
ENRIs:
Global Change
Science Topics:
Planetary science
Properties Of Earth Materials
Mantle & Core Processes
Abstract:
We will measure Ni, Fe, Cu, and Zn isotopes in a range of meteorites. These insights will yield information about the distribution of the potential planetary heat source 60Fe in the early solar system (from measurements of 60Ni*), volatilisation and other fractionation processes for moderately volatile elements, and the extent of isotopic heterogeneity for these elements in the solar system.
