Abstract:
Data from our 50-year study of fulmar ecology have shown that variations in the North Atlantic Oscillation and sea surface temperature influence both reproductive performance and recruitment in this species. This proposal builds upon current interest in the consequences of abrupt climate change, and uses these data to parameterise age-structured matrix models that incorporate existing data on long-term trends in environmental variation. These models will be used to predict the consequences of recent and predicted trends in ocean climate on changes in colony size, and focus future research on causal links between variations in these indices of climate change and key population parameters.
