Abstract:
Recently developed microsampling techniques will be used to explore the Rb-Sr isotopic behaviour of hornblende and feldspars in nature to test the hypothesis that their closure temperatures are high and that deformation in shear zones formed under amphibolite facies conditions can be accurately dated by this system. Age comparisons between microsamples from different microstructural settings in individual rock samples/outcrops will be made using material from sheared dykes in the Finnish Proterozoic and other independently dated samples. The potential for improved precision by using MC-ICPMS for rubidium isotope dilution will be explored.
