Development of new apparatus for simultaneous mechanistic and kinetic studies of heterogeneous atmospheric chemistry.

Grant Award

Principal Investigator:
Dr A Horn, University of York, Chemistry

Atmospheric
Overall Classification:
Atmospheric
ENRIs:

Science Topics:
Atmospheric Kinetics
Tropospheric Processes
Abstract:
The development of apparatus to simultaneously probe the kinetic and mechanistic details of the heterogeneous interactions of atmospheric trace species upon appropriate solid surfaces is proposed. This will produce flow-tube apparatus with an in situ surface sensitive spectroscopic probe (using attenuated total internal reflection infrared spectroscopy). Kinetic studies will be performed simultaneously using die moveable injector flow tube method. The information obtained will complement existing studies of heterogeneous chemistry on these substrates and further assist our fundamental understanding of the dependency of local, global and short-lived heterogeneous processing upon temperature, humidity and local composition.
