Abstract:
Newly discovered remains of the enigmatic and gigantic pachycormid fish Leedsichthys problematicus prove to be the anterior portion of the fish and include elements of the shoulder girdle, pectoral fins and skull. The remains occur as articulated, partially articulated and scattered skeletal elements spread over a length of quarry face of 25 metres. These remains provide the first opportunity for more than one hundred years to undertake a scientific excavation of this gigantic Middle Jurassic bony fish.
