Abstract:
EOS MLS is a satellite instrument which is being built by NASA's Jet propulsion Laboratory. It will measure the temperature and composition of the atmosphere, from the upper troposphere to the edge of space. Its measurements will be of crucial importance in allowing scientists in the UK and worldwide to address two of the principal ways in which mankind is affecting the atmosphere: depletion of the ozone layer and global warming. The team presenting this application have worked on the design of and preparation for this instrument since its inception. The grant applied for here will allow us to fulfil our responsibilities for pre-launch preparation and post-launch validation, and to carry out the first scientific studies using the data.
