Investigation of ozone loss and dynamic processes in the lower stratosphere using models and atmospheric tracer measurements.

Grant Award

Principal Investigator:
Professor JA Pyle, University of Cambridge, Chemistry
Science Area:
Atmospheric
Overall Classification:
Atmospheric
ENRIs:
Pollution and Waste

Science Topics:
Stratospheric Processes
Large Scale Dynamics/Transport
Abstract:
A numerical modelling study will be combined with our extensive set of stratospheric tracer measurements to study a number of issues relevant to ozone depletion. We will investigate the usual modelled underestimate of polar loss, with emphasis on the uncertainties in chemical kinetics and adiabatic descent. A new model technique will be used to study mixing in the lower stratosphere.
