Abstract:
This project will investigate the sources, pathways, chemical nature, controlling processes, rate and extent of lead input to freshwaters from the currently diminishing but considerable past atmospheric deposition of anthropogenic lead to streams and their catchment soils in an upland area of Scotland. A combination of sophisticated stable isotope mass spectrometric techniques will be applied to the lead isotopic characterisation of the particulate, colloidal and dissolved fractions of soil and stream waters and of components extracted from the solid phases of soils and sediments collected during an extensive field campaign and processed by modem isolation methods.
