Abstract:
Turbulence and bubble size population measurements and sonographs of the breaking waves and Langmuir bubble bands have been obtained from four AUTOSUB missions made in March-April 2000 at depths ranging from 2 m to 10 m and in winds from calm to 13 m/s. The objectives of this proposal are to examine the relationships between the bubbles, characterised by their size distributions, and their turbulent environment in order to improve models of turbulence in the upper ocean and air-sea gas transfer.
