- Abstract:
- The Inclusive Leadership for Public Engagement course will be an action-led, 12 week programme that will cover three areas: Block 1: Inclusivity in Public Engagement Practice Block 2: Inclusive Influence and Leadership Block 3: Changing culture within your context The course will be developed for those with a strong commitment to public engagement as part of their current or future researcher identity. The fully accessible course will be delivered online using a combination of delivered content, group work, and 1-2-1 mentoring. Participants will use a live project or initiative as a focus for the course so that the ideas, concepts, and practices presented on the course can be applied in real-time. The participants will finish the course with key ideas and practices in (i) Inclusive leadership for public engagement; (ii) Interdisciplinary and cross-boundary working; and (iii) Actions which promote diversity, equity and inclusion in environmental science. There are few courses on leadership for public engagement for environmental scientists. Those that do exist (such as NCCPE's) are long-term commitments which are suitable for researchers who are more established in their careers. This short course offers an opportunity to develop insight into leadership for public engagement that is appropriate for the career stage of the participants (post-graduates, post-doctoral, and those considering applying for KE Fellowship). The programme will be suitable for people with both formal or informal responsibility for leading public engagement for example those who have (or would like) responsibility for public engagement as part of a grant or departmental programme. By the end of the course, participants will: * have increased their understanding of DEI in public engagement practice and leadership * feel more confident leading outreach and public engagement as a result of the programme * have developed their knowledge and skills in leading Outreach and Public Engagement * have made substantial progress developing their leadership approach
