- Abstract:
- This project involves 3 NPIF studentships: Forest health - using airborne and satellite observations to monitor the state of UK forests and woodlands. This project will combine field data with near earth observations from drones to map and model early warnings of forest yield limitations linked to disease in the UK, to inform better understanding of forest dynamics in response to management. Spherical Slepian function modelling of the magnetic field to probe the outer core. This project will develop techniques to better model and understand the regional magnetic field and core surface flows and internal dynamics using spherical Slepian functions. Seasonal storage of hydrogen in porous rocks: decarbonising heating in the UK. For the first time, this project will investigate a novel technology for the storage of pressurised hydrogen gas, to provide energy on a seasonal timescale. This will contribute to the decarbonisation of the UK's energy supply and to energy security
