Abstract:
Natural Flood Risk Management (NFRM) is an urgent and practical response of UK government and NGOs to recent UK floods. Evidence for the effectiveness of different types of NFRM (eg tree planting; localised storage in fields) and their implementation to "slow the flow" requires a deep understanding of hydrological processes, robust experimental evidence, modelling and stakeholder engagement skills. The Lancaster Environment Centre and Jeremy Benn Associates (who are leading NFRM evidence assessment projects for the Environment Agency and NFRM modelling for the Rivers Trust in Cumbria) will deliver the advanced training needed to equip participants with the skills to tackle this national priority.
