- Abstract:
- This 4-day introductory workshop will provide participants with an understanding of up to date practices and methodologies used for the analysis and quantification of 2D and 3D images of porous media/particles. The primary focus will be centred around image analysis through a series of interactive lectures and practical sessions using the participant's own data concerning computation of morphological parameters (porosity, tortuosity, connectivity, surfaces and others). The course will end with a Hackathon and will draw on all the key areas delivered throughout the week. The course will address key areas of data collection, data use and data management, with an emphasis on data mining, statistics and programming. In order to provide skills in areas where the participants will not be required to raise funds to continue developing their skill sets, the workshop will aim to focus on all key areas using open-source software. The course will be led by world-leading experts from The Natural History Museum, The Software Sustainability Institute and at University Pierre et Marie Curie, drawing on the inter-disciplinary strengths of the experts. This culmination of course content and expertise truly represents a unique course addressing the basic and fundamental needs of data collection, data management and data processing. This course aims to provide the foundations of workign with any form of image data for postgraduate researchers.
