Abstract:
The potential value of storm prediction research carried out at the University of Reading has been recognised by a number of different industry sectors, including oil and gas, insurance and marine transportation. However, lack of knowledge in these sectors in interpreting and using such information presents a major barrier. This Fellowship aims to overcome this barrier by making storm forecast and climate information easily accessible to a variety of industry sectors. Forecast and diagnostic tools will be developed using eScience techniques and a website will be created to illustrate these tools to industry. By building on links developed in 2 previous KE projects, a number of companies that require this storm forecast and/or climate information have been identified. We will work with these companies to tailor the tools to their specific requirements. Workshops with industry and the scientific community will be organised to create further opportunities to build on this KE.
