Abstract:
HIRDLS is an infrared limb sounder to measure stratospheric temperature and constituents from the NASA Aura satellite to be launched in June 2004. The measurements will be used to advance our understanding of atmospheric processes that directly affect the Earths climate. The project is joint with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, USA. The UK part was approved by SERC in 1991 until after launch, and has been funded through the NERC award scheme. This application requests support to permit key staff at Oxford University to be retained over the accumulated launch slip from June 2003 to June 2004 that has occurred since the original NERC awards and is in addition to the enabling fund round-three to cover three months of this slip. It will provide for launch preparation including ground control, spacecraft testing and preparation for flight.
