Abstract:
The Physical Properties (Petrophysics) Network will encourage and enable the exchange of information, including technology and knowledge transfer, between academia and end-users. Using web-based material, electronic communications, and focused meetings we propose a small regional group of Core Partners: University of Leicester, British Geological Survey (Nottingham), Reeves-Wireline (East Leake), Geotek Ltd (Daventry), and the London Petrophysical Society thus ensuring representation of a professional society, academia, public and private sector organisations, government laboratories, and research & technology organisations. Steered by the core partners initially, rapid growth of the network will include members at all levels (from research students through to experienced industrial and academic experts) from a very wide range of backgrounds (theoretical, practical, design, construction, processing and interpretation) and disciplines. The aim is to develop a network of people working towards characterizing the physical properties of materials, but not constrained by conventional physical properties analysis. We anticipate bringing in researchers in other disciplines to improve characterization of the natural environment through cross-disciplinary fertilization of ideas and technological advances. Communication between parties will lead to cross-discipline research proposals between academia, NERC institutes and industry. The network will be accessible to all and self-funding by the end of the 3 years. It aims to create a novel approach to physical properties characterisation not currently served by any one of the Core Partner categories.
