- Abstract:
- The project aims at testing the hypothesis of a Southern Dispersal of modern humans (from East Africa to southern Asia) by integrating palaeoenvironmental and palaeoanthropological data. it will compile palaeoenvironmental evidence, build sea-level maps, data key archaeological sites and palaeoenvironmental feature sin Saudi Arabia, examine archaeological assemblages in Saudi and India, and study the morphology of human populations through time along the hypothesised route. Simulations will address the rate, direction and demography of potential population expansions. Two major databases (archaeological and palaeobiological) will be produced, as well as palaeoenvironmental maps and SAR dates. The project will establish the environmental likelihood of such a dispersal event, and the degree of empirical support from existing palaeoanthropological data.
