- Abstract:
- The training course will deliver a specialised insight into advanced sediment core logging analysis and data visualisation and data management. This course will be particularly of interest to postgraduates undertaking research working with sediment cores to investigate Earth history and processes recorded in the marine, terrestrial and lacustrine environments. The British Ocean Sediment Core Research Facility (BOSCORF) based at the National Oceanography Centre is the UK's national deep sea sediment core repository and will provide a unique setting for the training. The facility presents a set of specialist, strategic services to the UK's scientific community. BOSCORF has a unique portfolio of advanced core logging instruments in the UK and is uniquely placed to provide such essential training. The training course will involve formal lectures, laboratory demonstrations, computer-based practicals and open forum discussion sessions, all led by internationally-recognised experts. The course provides students with valuable transferable skills, widely used in industry and academia, and essential training for their research in the environmental sciences.
