Abstract:
The CIHS project aims to establish how climate products from COAPEC coupled climate prediction models can be used for developing a climate-informed decision support tool (DST) for UK Department of Health (DoH) winter emergency service and capacity planning by: (a) establishing the nature of climate forecasts required and the type of intuitive climate and health knowledge used in DoH emergency service and capacity related decision making, (b) using observed and COAPEC coupled climate model data for diagnostic climate and health studies and the development of climate based health forecasting (HF) models, and (c) assimilating HF model output with intuitive climate and health knowledge to develop decision rules for a prototype DST and warning system for militating against the health effects of winter climatic variability in the UK.
