Abstract:
The changing pattern of mantle convection ultimately governs how the Earth evolves. So far, the temporal and spatial details of this pattern have proven to be elusive. I wish to investigate how a combination of basin subsidence histories, solid sediment flux estimates and passive margin geometries can be used to address this important problem. The obvious place to start is Africa where a varying dynamic topography evidently controls regional drainage.
